don_crissti wrote:Screen brightness prefs isn't working properly ATM in Gnome 3.2 (it doesn't stick across reboots). Quick'n'dirty hack:
  1. adjust screen brightness
  2. running
    Code: Select all
    pkexec /usr/lib64/gsd-backlight-helper --get-brightness

returns the current brightness value (e.g. 7)
  3. run
    Code: Select all
    gnome-session-properties
and add the following startup command (replace 7 with whatever you got at B.):

    Code: Select all
    pkexec /usr/lib64/gsd-backlight-helper --set-brightness 7

Dear son_crissti

I did as you tell and it worked, thanks!

Now the only unsolved problem seems to be the bluetooth

..in the meantime would be nice also to have added the gnome-screenshot package, so I may use the combo keys <Fn> + <prtsc>

Re: Lots of issues with pclinuxos zen mini 64 bit

ok, I think I solved the bluetooth problem (not by myself)

Firs forgive me but this will go a little offtopic: I installed the kde minime 32 bit on my 64 bit laptop and got same bluetooth problem. And that's the same on the 64 bit zen mini test 2 iso, so I guess it's a problem common to every pclinuxos version I hunted high and low, and at #linuxcaffe (Freenode IRC channel) got the following solution:

first they told me to check out the /etc/init.d/ directory

Code: Select all
[nico@localhost init.d]$ ls
acpid*               halt*                             netconsole*          reboot@
alsa*                 ip6tables*                     netfs*                  resolvconf*
apmiser*           iptables*                       network*             saslauthd*
apt*                  irqbalance*                   network-auth*      shorewall*
atd*                  kheader*                      network-up*         single*
atieventsd*       killall*                           nscd*                  sound*
avahi-daemon*  laptop-mode*                ntpd*                  syslog*
bpalogin*          mandi*                          numlock*            udev-post*
cpufreq*            mandrake_everytime*   partmon*            ultrabayd*
crond*               mandrake_firstime*      portreserve*       uuidd*
dm*                  messagebus*                 powersaved*      wlan*
functions          msec*                           pppoe*               xfs*
haldaemon*       mysqld*                        pptp*                 xinetd*

at first glance, seems there's nothing about bluetooth, maybe it is not set to execute the service a t boot ( I really don't know???)

though in the 2.6.38.8bfs kernel (32 and 64 bit) seems the module from my adapter is present

Code: Select all
lsmod | grep blue

output:

Code: Select all
 bluetooth              51698  8 sco,bnep,l2cap,btusb
toshiba_bluetooth       1598  0
 rfkill                 12694  2 bluetooth

I'm using a toshiba bluetooh built-in adapter in my laptop

(before I solved I installed also the rfkill package but didn't know if it were necessary)

seems that bluetooth is not correcty set to run from the start up. In fact using hciconfig

Code: Select all
[nico@localhost ~]$  hciconfig -a
hci0:   Type: BR/EDR  Bus: USB
BD Address: 00:00:00:00:00:00  ACL MTU: 0:0  SCO MTU: 0:0
        DOWN
        RX bytes:34 acl:0 sco:0 events:3 errors:0
        TX bytes:12 acl:0 sco:0 commands:4 errors:0

it' off (donw)

typing as root

Code: Select all
# hciconfig hci0 up

will activate bluetooth:

Code: Select all
[nico@localhost ~]$  hciconfig -a
hci0:   Type: BR/EDR  Bus: USB
BD Address: E8:39:DF:40:37:DE  ACL MTU: 1021:8  SCO MTU: 64:1
        UP RUNNING PSCAN ISCAN
        RX bytes:1104 acl:0 sco:0 events:43 errors:0
        TX bytes:662 acl:0 sco:0 commands:43 errors:0
        Features: 0xff 0xff 0x8f 0xfe 0x9b 0xff 0x79 0x87
        Packet type: DM1 DM3 DM5 DH1 DH3 DH5 HV1 HV2 HV3
Link policy: RSWITCH HOLD SNIFF PARK
        Link mode: SLAVE ACCEPT
        Name: 'localhost.localdomain-0'
        Class: 0x580100
Service Classes: Capturing, Object Transfer, Telephony
        Device Class: Computer, Uncategorized
        HCI Version: 3.0 (0x5)  Revision: 0x222
        LMP Version: 3.0 (0x5)  Subversion: 0x4203
        Manufacturer: Broadcom Corporation (15)

and magically my cellphone is detected :P

Code: Select all
[nico@localhost ~]$ hcitool scan
Scanning ...
        BC:85:1F:51:65:FC       GalaxyS
[nico@localhost ~]$

so as it was suggested, here's a quickfix:

edit file /etc/rc.local

mine is

Code: Select all
[nico@localhost ~]$ cat /etc/rc.local
#!/bin/sh
#
### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides: rc.local
# X-Mandriva-Compat-Mode
# Default-Start: 2 3 4 5
# Short-Description: Local initialization script
# Description: This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts.
#              You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't
#              want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.
### END INIT INFO

touch /var/lock/subsys/local

modprobe snd-usb-audio

# Fix linkage to cdrom/dvd and permissons since udev is screwed
ln -s /dev/sr0 /dev/dvd > /dev/null 2>&1
ln -s /dev/sr0 /dev/cdrom > /dev/null 2>&1
chmod 777 /dev/sr0 > /dev/null 2>&1
chown root:root /dev/sr0 > /dev/null 2>&1
chmod 777 /dev/sr1 > /dev/null 2>&1
chown root:root /dev/sr1 > /dev/null 2>&1

and add the following line at the bottom of the file under the section # Fix linkage to cdrom/dvd and permissons since udev is screwed:

Code: Select all
hciconfig hci0 up

also blueman started to see my cellphone.

In the end: guess there's something wrong with udev and/or default config files in pclinuxos?

Please siamer, ognto and slax: would you inform texstar, neal archie and the other at pclinuxos.com?

sorry again for the little offtopic :)

adding the line on xblacklight in /etc/rc.local not has no direct effect (...damn!!) But I solved, using the official version (kde) by adding it to /home/nico/.kde4/Autostart/ in a file that I made and called luminosita.sh and I made it executable.

hello!

Jus installed the very newest 3.2.18 pae kernel (32 bit pclinuxos on my 64 bit laptop) and now fn keys to set brightness works out of the box!

but...

I got no display indicator moving as I increase or decrease brightnes..., whele sound has it

I also installed the latest ATI catalyst driver 12.4 along with latest X11 drivers. Supposa that it need a little bit more kernel thinkering?

Both are now at version 8.961-1pclos2012

moreover, I stil had to repeat my etc/rc.local modification procedure to gwt bluetooth get back working...well how about to get that bluetooth working out of the box without thinkering?

I'll leave a little more this topic open waiting for some more replys/infos, otherwise I'll mark as solved !
